To create a firmer foundation for marketing, a brand pillar guide was requested ­­— and created — for the UCLA Guest House, the beloved on-campus boutique hotel.

Designed to create awareness among students that the campus residential restaurant, Covel, was serving Mediterranean cuisine, our team came up with a marketing campaign to generate buzz using the tagline, #GetItAtCovel. I designed the look of the materials, which included posters, digital screens and table tents, and wrote the majority of the headlines.

Using stationery with two different logos for years, the owners of this optical business knew they had to unify and update their look to remain competitive. Given free rein so long as it was clean, simple, friendly and engaging, the resulting logo that I designed was a not-so-subtle allusion to a face as well as a pair of glasses, highly appropriate for an optician.

Well-received among the public, the client credits the new look with increasing their business. Additionally, the logo is also a Merit Award Logo Design Winner in HOW Magazine’s 2005 International Design Competition.

I was asked to refresh the identity for a lingerie manufacturer that included a logotype redesign, stationery system, product catalog, promotional calendar, advertising, signage and packaging. The new visual identity program that I developed for the makers of the Original Water Bra™ uses dramatic, custom photography and clean, minimal design to convey upscale, classic sophistication. After the product catalog was distributed to buyers, sales increased by an estimated 25%.

Additionally, I created a series of advertising posters using their tagline and beautiful photography to help promote the refresh. I also art directed the photo shoot.

To complement a CD package that I was creating for the client—a composer and pianist—he asked me to also create a poster to go along with it. Since the album was to be called “Surprised by Beauty,” he was curious to find out what others thought was unexpectedly beautiful—not just common things like waterfalls and flowers. So he took a poll of people he knew with an eye toward having the responses incorporated into a poster to memorialize the music. Every single response—over 600—has been typeset in the Surprised by Beauty poster. An excerpt from the poster art is featured on the inside of the CD (see below).
